BIO
Esra Rahma Abdalla Mohamed [b.1996] is a Sudanese artist residing in Kampala, Uganda. Having migrated to Uganda as a refugee due to tensions in her homeland, Sudan, her work are essentially open ended questions and an attempt to answer them.
Her works are queries of her memory – of life as she knew it and what could have been. Going further to interrogate her current status as an artist in a “strange land.” Mohamed seeks to create dialogue of social injustice and inequity.
Underlying themes of her work include despair, hope, introspection, the desire to belong and resilience.
The subjects in Mohamed’s work are also very peculiar – an interrogation of what is considered normal.
